King Kong
“Mind over body” coach says
We break the huddle
“Panthers on 3”, “1, 2, 3 Panthers”
I snap my helmet on, click click
As we start rushing out the locker room
Out on to the field
I start feeling those butterflies
More, and more, and more
It’s so bad I swear
My heart is going to fall out my chest.
As we reach the end of the tunnel
I hear the crowd yelling
The cheerleaders cheering
The band playing
And the announcer announcing us
“Give it up for the mighty Panthers”
Man I wish I was Tazz on the stands
As if it couldn’t get any worse
“Stay focus Panthers”
A parent yells from the stands
But I can’t
It’s my first game this season
Playing a power house
The Chapin Huskies
Then I get a flashback
“Who ever comes harder
Wont feel the pain”
Coach Torres ones said.
Then I close my eyes
And start breathing calmly
I start imagining my self
As an ape, gorilla
Not just any gorilla, but King Kong
All of a sudden
The butterflies exit my body
And feel tough, mean, and pumped
I now feel like nothing can’t stop me
Or even block me
Unstoppable is what I called me
And impress the coaches I did
I had led my team to victory
With 380 rushing yards
Five touch downs
And a hell of a show
At the end of the game
I was awarded the game ball
Stuck my chest out and stood tall
Proud my coaches were.
